ALBANY - A majority of New Yorkers support gay marriage and Gov. Paterson's attempt to legalize it, a new poll shows.A Siena College poll released Monday found that by 53% to 39% margin, those surveyed say the state Senate should pass legislation to legalize same-sex marriage, virtually ensuring it would become law.
It seems to me that soon, many states in the North and West may allow gay marriage, and many states in the South and Southwest may choose to keep discriminatory anti-gay laws in place.
This will result in a modern day Mr.Mason-Mr.Dixon line, north of which Mr.Mason and Mr.Dixon may become happily married, and south of which they will have the equivalent marital status that they used to share with couples of mixed race.
I just hope any new states that might join the union are required to allow equal rights for all...
